1879 amazing 3¼d INTERIM UPU RATE to JAMAICA
GB QV 1¼d FOREIGN POST CARD (intended for use between full UPU members GB and the USA at half the 2½d letter rate) uprated with 2 x GB QV 1d Plate 209 to make the CLOSEST POSSIBLE 3d RATE (ie half the 6d INTERIM UPU rate) for Jamaica. Pmkd Clevedon MR 16 79 (carried by RMSP Don departing Southampton MR 17 79) arriving AP 4 79.
The half ounce letter rate to UK was 1/- prior Jamaica joining the Postal Union AP 1 1877. For the 2 year period until AP 1 1879 when Jamaica became a full UPU member the rate was 6d. After membership the rate was 4d between full UPU members.
