Code 4 used ST. GEORGE, Barbados postal history
(M2-R, replacement cds with wording further away from outer rim) arrival dated (4)/JA 8 (87) both code and year not inserted (LRD) on QV ½d red-brown Post Card written "St. John's Jany 8th" and posted with Bridgetown open bootheel duplex dated A/JA 8 87 to His Honor, The Speaker, Greens, St. George.
Confirmation that this is the Parish code 4 cds comes with the damaged rim at 8 o'clock as found on earlier dates on loose adhesives. The current ERD for the M3 series cds is only 10 days later, JA 18 87. The earliest strikes JA 18 87 to OC 23 90 also show no code 4, at some point thereafter the code 4 was inserted.

1886 use of Barbados QV 1½d brown UPU Post Card with cross-written text headed "Mar 29" pmk'd Dominica vertical "A07" at Roseau with C/AP 3 86 despatch cds alongside to Miss M.B. Clinckett, Rev. Canon Branch, The Rectory, Barrouallie, St. Vincent with only KINGSTOWN C/AP 8 86 arrival b/stamp, corner fault but a fine example of accepted mail which should not have been accepted without penalty.

(M2-R) dated 7/MY 14 85 as arrival on QV ½d Post Card to The Spring Plantation, St. James, reverse printed text headed Bridgetown with buying prices refined sugar, and molasses per gallon.

1854 cover to Clifton, Bristol rated 1/- with PAID AT BARBADOES in red with JU 27 1854 despatch dbl-arc on reverse coupled with PAID AT BARBADOES in black on local cover pmk'd open bootheel duplex FE 20 93, plus further impressions in black, one overstruck bold "5", the other dated C/MR 4 96. The black strikes used during shortages of adhesives, and all three showing chipped short right leg in "A" of BARBADOES etc, the two covers with faults.

1891 QV 2½d rate regimental cover to Cushendun, Co. Antrim, Ireland pmk'd SP 12 91 duplex with neatly written 14 sides on 3 pages regimental note paper in the form of a diary spanning the period 14 days Saturday 29th August to Friday 11th September.
Newsy contents mention loss of £70 worth of silver in a robbery, the subsequent capture of one of the robbers when he tried to sell some of the spoons to a jeweller, another of the garrison had up by the police for refusing to pay full fare on the railway, and additionally getting caught when he gave his A.D.C.s free pass to his sister, polo matches, guard duty, shooting of braces golden plover, long legs and chirps, and taking the ponies for a swim and their rapid exit due a nearby blue shark. There is also mention of sketches of the glens of Antrim by the English artist and author Rose de Crespiguy.

This series of Parish marks (M2-O, original set close to outer rim, and M2-R, replacement set further away from rim) are rarely found on entire. Struck on "loose" Britannia issues they are mostly extremely rare except for "2" code (Christchurch) but even this not recorded tying stamp on cover.

1882 use QV 1½d red-brown Post Card "per Zoe" to London with design pmk'd open bootheel duplex dated A/FE 1 82, landed with red SHIP-LETTER/A/PAID/FE 20 82/LONDON cds. Soiling and with pieces paper obscuring parts of reverse text.
Mail landed by private ship from Barbados to UK ports is rarely met for the later period. During period 1865 to 1886 only six entires are recorded as such, one landing Dover, five landing London.
